You must be comfortable with the photographer

For most couples, photography is considered to be a very important part of your special day. It’s important you choose the right photographer for you; they will be capturing all those special moments and transforming them into something truly unique that will last you a lifetime. You don’t want to rush into the wrong decision, you need to make sure you will be happy with what you get, however it can be really hard to choose from all the different styles and services out there. I hope I can help make your selection a little bit easier with just a few tips to consider:

Firstly you must be comfortable with the photographer; he or she will play a big part in your day. The last thing you want on your wedding day is to feel uncomfortable with the person, and to feel awkward. It is important you can relax around them and to have a little fun, this will also reflect in your photos, and make for a better shot.

Most photographers will have there own sense of style and character, setting them apart from the rest. It is important when you are selecting your photographer you take the timeout to meet with them and view a portfolio of their work and perhaps a wedding they have shot. Ensure that their style of photography will be able to produce what you have in mind. Don’t be scared to talk to them about your wishes and ideas, you need to be confident that you can get what you desire. Once you’ve had a bit of a look around and you are happy with a few, it’s time to compare services and prices.

To make your decisions between photographers a little bit easier, look at what they have to offer. Most photographers offer different types of packages, although some just have one set service and price. Have a look at what some packages involve, like how many photos, what type of album, different effects (e.g. B&W, sepia, cross process), any enlargements etc. See what one may suit you best and start to compare prices. Cost for a photographer can vary quite a lot, as with any service it depends a great deal on quality, experience and how it is presented. Really the photography for your day will cost as much as the photographer you really like charges. Make sure you check your budget, and if you can afford them, GREAT! If not, you may have to make a few compromises, don’t forget though you don’t want to compromise quality too much.

Once you’ve finally made your decision and you’re happy with a photographer, you need to make a booking. Try to make your booking six to twelve months prior to your wedding date. In busy periods for weddings though try to make your booking 18 months in advance. Some photographers too, are very sought after and bookings for them at times need to be made no less then 12 months in advance or you may be disappointed and miss out. Make sure you have a back up plan incase the photographer is booked for your wedding date. On booking you may be asked to pay a deposit, and in some cases it may be a non-refundable deposit.

Sometimes it can be a good idea to have a list of some photographs to be taken, in some cases the photographer may ask for one. I will suggest though you ask them if they’d like a list, and just go from there. It may be more effective if you discuss with them the different photos you would like, and leave it with them. A list may invade there creativity and there artistic ability, and the results may not be as good as what they can do when they’re let loose on there camera.

I hope I’ve been able to help assist you in the preparations of your big day. My name is Naomi Pearce and if you have any inquiries or queries please do not hesitate to contact me on 0421 442 676. I would love to be apart in your special day, and capture those timeless moments for you. I take pride in making your shots into something that will last you a lifetime

Good luck & don’t forget to have some fun.
